History of Missouri Eye Consultants
1966
Founded as
Eye Consultants, Inc.
Our story begins at our Columbia, MO office on Keene Street, when Dr. Sulzberger, an optometrist, joined the practice of Dr. Cheek, an ophthalmologist. It’s also where our commitment to taking care of our patients’ complete eye health began!
Late 1970s
Name Change
Wanting to better reflect the community we serve, our name changed to Columbia Eye Consultants, with Optometry and Ophthalmology branches.
2007
Opened Office on
Nifong Boulevard
More people requested our eye care, and we opened our second location to help better serve the needs of the larger Columbia community.
2015
Montgomery City
Office Opens
We expanded beyond Columbia with our next location, opening an office to help provide great vision to the Montgomery City, MO area.
2018
Expansion to Ashland
We continued to grow as a practice, opening a fourth location, and our second outside of Columbia, in Ashland, MO.
2020
New Offices in
Moberly and California
2020 was an especially busy year for us, as our expansion continued — first in January when we added an office in California, MO, and again in July with an office in Moberly, MO.

As we’ve evolved, we’ve grown far beyond our single-community beginnings, and decided it was important to change our name to showcase that. We are here to take care of the vision needs of not just Columbia, but the entire state of Missouri.
