What to Expect
After Surgery
Our friendly and attentive staff will prioritize your comfort and care to ensure you have the best experience possible and everything you need for a smooth recovery. During the early stages of this process, we want to remind you that the following post-operation symptoms are all common:
- Foggy vision for 48 to 72 hours after surgery
- The sensation of having sand or a piece of dust in your eye
- Dark or bright shimmers in your side vision
- Halos around lights
- Your eye remaining dilated for the first 24 hours
Care Instructions
Even after you leave our office, we are here to guide you through your journey to clearer vision and a healthy recovery. Here are some important tips we put together to help you through the first week post-op, so your eyes heal with ease.
Do’s
After your surgery, here are some important things you should remember to do:
- Use your eye drops as prescribed
- Take extra caution to protect your eyes from injury
- Avoid rubbing your eyes or putting foreign substances in them
- Continue to read, walk and watch television
- Wear your eye shield at bedtime for the first week following surgery
- If you use supplemental oxygen or a CPAP machine at night, continue to do so
Dont’s
There are a few things you should steer avoid after your cataract surgery, including:
- Consuming alcohol, tranquilizers, sleeping pills or any non-prescription medication for 24 hours unless advised otherwise
- Submerging your head underwater for the first two weeks after surgery
- Wearing makeup for at least a week

Emergencies happen, and we’re ready to act quickly to protect your vision when they do. Our experts are here to treat your eyes when issues occur — regardless of the time of day.
If you experience any problems, such as a loss of vision, a sudden change in vision, significant eye pain, bleeding, signs of infection or other concerns, please call the office immediately. If you’re calling this number after our normal business hours on nights or weekends, please select the option to have your call transferred to an on-call physician.
